Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a suitable candidate?

Suitable candidates are likely to be middle/senior managers that have been operating at this level for a minimum of 5 years and have relevant business skills.

Why would the Public Sector be interested in me?

Public Sector Boards historically attracted willing volunteers who, in general, did not have the necessary business skills to cope with the transition to a customer focused organisation. They are currently looking for people like you with the relevant business experience to help them develop the capability of the Board.

How long does it take to get appointed?

It depends on a number of factors, including how quickly your CV can be completed and the availability of opportunities in your area. If you work in London, you will also be eligible to apply here in addition to your home location. On average, the cycle time for appointment is 3-4 months.

Can I do this at the same time as my existing role?

The NED role normally takes up 2 ½ days per month. This time will consist of 1 ½ days on site to attend Board/Committee meetings and 1 day off site to keep abreast of required reading material. This scheme already has many senior appointees from FTSE 100 companies who comfortably manage to fulfil the requirements of both positions held.

What are the benefits to me?

The NED role will expose you to Board level governance, allow you to ‘put something back’ in your local community, enhance your CV and build your Non-Executive portfolio.

Am I remunerated for this role?

Yes you are. There are a range of payments depending on the role; however, typically, this will be between £7k-£27k per annum.

When can I get started?

It’s very simple. Register now, and we will contact you before the end of the next working day.

Is there a fee for a private individual who is not part of a company funded scheme

I have to say that I found Jim Pringle and his company Notum invaluable support through the process in terms of helping get the CV into an acceptable shape and preparing me for the interviews. Jim was more or less right on point with the questions he thought would come up and I got some outstanding feedback from the Chairman of the Board on my interview performance. If anyone else is interested , I’d really recommend Notum as a source of excellent support.
